MUDGEERABA AND HINTERLAND TRAIL CLUB READY TO SADDLE UP FOR 20th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS
DATE RELEASED: TUESDAY 29th DECEMBER 2009
THE call has gone out for all current and former members of the Mudgeeraba and Hinterland Horse Trail Club to join in next year’s 20th anniversary celebrations.
The club – at one stage one of the largest in Australia - wants former members to be involved and catch up with riders they may have lost touch with.
According to foundation member Colleen Parriott around 20 inaugural members participated in the first ride from the Bonogin Valley to the Tallebudgera Valley and back.
“For the 20th anniversary of our foundation meeting and that first ride we are going to have a heritage-themed Picnic Fun Day in the Park at Davenport Park at Bonogin on Sunday 28th March and it would be great to have as many people along as possible,” Colleen said.
“We’d really like people to get in touch with us now though so we can make sure we properly celebrate the club and the people who have helped shape it over the past two decades,” she said.
The Mudgeeraba and Hinterland Horse Trail Club was founded when twelve local horse riders from various disciplines met at the home of Barry and Margie Hatton to explore the possibility of forming a local club.
For the first year meetings were held at the home of inaugural President John Sparke until membership grew and the Mudgeeraba Pony Club became the new shared headquarters.
“Our club has always been very active in the local community, participating in the Mudgeeraba Show, Gold Coast Show, Mudgeeraba Primary School Centenary Celebration, Kokoda Challenge and more recently the Mudgeeraba Friendliest Town celebrations,” Colleen said.
“Davenport Park has a large shelter, toilet facilities, water and a large oval to accommodate the heritage picnic games - sack races, egg and spoon races and so forth - that will be held after lunch.
“It will be BYO drinks and picnic lunch and we will have the club BBQ there for those who want to cook lunch,” she said.
People wanting further information or to be involved in the celebrations can call club President Jill Batty on 0437 237 969.
